DAY 271

Luke 9:9 And Herod said, John have I beheaded: but who is this, of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him.
Herod found himself perplexed [completely baffled, puzzled and clueless]. The reason for this was because he was receiving conflicting information. It was as though his channels of communication were faulty and were providing guesses of who Jesus might be: John raised from the dead, Elijah reborn or one of the Prophets.
So to clear his doubts, ‘He sought to see Jesus”. That was his fool proof way of clearing his doubts. There is something a lack of clarity does to a man: it introduces hesitation and even fear. One therefore often has to seek clarity before any forward advance can be made.
This can be a hindrance, however, in the journey of faith where steps of obedience are required even in the absence of complete clarity. It takes real Trust and increasing knowledge to take steps of obedience even when the entire staircase is not visible.
By all means therefore, pursue clarity but don’t let this pursuit hinder you journey of faith with God.
