DAY 265

Lessons in life can be gleaned from many sources. In today’s mini bites, I share three lessons after reflecting on an 800-kilometre drive. The first half of the journey was a four and half hour drive with a 30 minute stop midway. This break proved necessary hence, the first bite:
1. Breaks are good
This is true for spiritual breaks (reflections and meditations on the things of God), physical breaks (rest/sleep), as well as intellectual and emotional breaks (stillness in mind). These breaks are not an end in themselves, but they offer an opportunity to look introspectively: a chance to step out of this busy domain to pause, review, reset, and refresh before returning. You will come back looking at things through the scope of a different lens.
The second bite is this:
2. You have the capacity to be helped to meet any goal if you set targets and commit to meeting them.
The second half of the journey was a six hour drive, this time without any breaks. It took the commitment to arrive home, and the willingness to bear some discomfort to power through. So, keep your eyes on the destination and move steadily towards it. And finally, the third bite:
3. Setbacks should be temporary
As much as we would prefer perfect and uninterrupted journeys, we would realise that not everything in life falls under our control. There was one near miss at the start of the journey, but that did not derail the entire journey. Setbacks should therefore not be our cues for downing tools and giving up. Dust yourself up, and start again.
