DAY 256
Reference text: Colossians 3:1-11
There are moments when it clearly indicates that everything rests on the shoulders of God and we only have to be still and see Him at work. Thus, I think every now and again, as believers, we forget the level of responsibility we have in our walk with God. Yet, when it comes to our growing and maturing, we receive engracings to take responsibility.
In today’s account, Paul uses many words to specify the extent of this responsibility when he began with the preamble ‘Since you have been raised with Christ, then…
- 1. Set your heart on things above, not on earthly things (vs 2)
- 2. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature (vs 5)
- 3. Rid yourself of all these things: ‘anger, rage, malice, slander and filthy language from your lips'(vs 7)
- 4. Take off your old self and put on the new self (vs 9,10)
Of note, none of the recommendations listed can come through impartation. They are outcomes that will be fulfilled when real effort is committed to doing them. We cannot just stay passive, and neither can be indifferent.
If we forget that ‘there is a doing dimension in our journey with God, we will remain children for long.’
