A WISE AND FAITHFUL SERVANT

DAY 243

Mt 24:45 Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of his household, to give the others their food at the proper time?

It is rather easy to get into the habit of thinking that God’s ability to use all my people, regardless of who they are, is an indicator that everything goes and nothing matters. We however quickly realise that this couldn’t have been further from the truth.

The servant in charge of the affairs of the house was no ordinary worker. In fact, a certain kind of servant was described, to whom the master was comfortable to set over his house: ‘a wise and faithful servant’.

The things to ponder on therefore is a consideration of what it would take to qualify into the criteria presented. No one simply becomes a fountain of wisdom, nor does faithfulness suddenly breakforth, it takes specific commitment to formation and training to become that.

God is able to use all men, but not all those available to him are usable by Him to a full extent.

  1. Great post! I really enjoyed reading your insights on the criteria of being a “wise and faithful servant.” It made me think about what steps I can take to develop wisdom and faithfulness in my own life. In your opinion, what are some practical ways that we can commit to the formation and training required to meet these criteria?

  2. Thank you and happy to know you were blessed. Practical dimensions can be could be gleaned from the text itself:
    1. Gain stature with God and with men – make effort to know the ways of God, and his dealings with men.
    2. Maintain integrity and commitment to discipline in the formation
    3. Be conscious of changing seasons and have an excellent spirit in all your dealings– the wise servant served food at its proper time.
    4. Remember that impact and destiny is time dependent, don’t drag your feet when action is required.
