DON’T LEAD BLINDLY

DAY 240

Matthew 23:16 Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!

We hear some very harsh descriptive words from Jesus in today’s Gospel: ‘hypocrites, blind guides, and blind fools. The word of interest today is ‘blind’. One definition of blind is ‘unwilling or unable to see, perceive or understand’. It is rather interesting to see ‘will and ability’ in relation to blindness.

Regardless of how much descriptives we use, ‘blind guide’ is an oxymoron that catches our attention because in essence, a guide is one employed to show others the way. They occupy this post because they know an area well enough to guide others. So in effect, a guide cannot be ‘blind’. Not just in reference to a visual point of view, but intellectual also.

If they are blind, how can they guide others? Jesus emphasises this in these words: ‘if the blind lead the blind, they will both fall into a pit (Mt 15:14).

When you find yourself serving as a guide, ensure that you have met the  requirements or are working towards  requirements for sight and paying the price to see’. Don’t just lead others blindly, because that journey will likely not have a good outcome.
