HE REMAINS ALMIGHTY

DAY 237

Ruth 1

We begin reading the book of Ruth today with multiple strands standing out on the first chapter. Our narrow focus is on Naomi. The reason for decifing to return home from Moab was because the famine had ended  however we notice it was deeper than that.

Her opening remarks upon returning home gives us the real picture:

“But she told them, “Don’t call me Naomi. Call me Mara, ” [Naomi means “pleasant”; Mara means “bitter”] “for Almighty God has dealt me bitter blows. I went out full and the Lord has brought me home empty; why should you call me Naomi when the Lord has turned his back on me and sent such calamity!” (Ruth 1:20-21)

Those are words spoken from a place of real pain and she left because the country of Moab served only as nothing but a reminder of her losses. Did she have reason to be angry? Yes. Did she have reason to question God? Rightly so. But we realise that amidst the pain, she still referred to God as “Almighty“.

That was Naomi saying ‘I have lost everything I had, but as Monarch of the Universe, you know why. You know what I don’t and see what I haven’t”.

Beloved, until we see the real end of a matter as God does, many things will make no sense. But just because we don’t understand God, does not mean He ceases being Almighty.
