A WASTE OF THE WINEPRESS

DAY 234

Judges 6:11b Gideon son of Joash was threshing wheat at the bottom of a winepress to hide the grain from the Midianites.

When you’re looking to shop for groceries, you know to make your way to a supermarket and if you’re going to make a financial transaction, you know to go to an establishment such as a bank. This is because certain locations are associated with specific activities.

We read today about an activity that was carried out in an unexpected  setting by Gideon – he took advantage of the fact that the medianites would not look for grain in a location meant for wine production. And he was right.

We might want to celebrate him for this genius idea, but lest we forget, the only reason this action was required was because Gideon was afraid of losing the grain to the midianites. He hid because he was afraid. Otherwise, why would one abandon the threshing floor and opt to use the winepress to thresh wheat?

That beloved, is what fear produces. Fear can make you change locations when you have no reason to, and it can cause you to perceive yourself even as insignificant. Fear will make you abandon the right tools, when you have them, in favour of alternatives that only weaken your advantage.

Don’t let fear cause you to thresh wheat in the wine press and abandon the wine in there. That will be a real waste of the winepress and it’s wine.
