DAY 228
Reference text: Matthew 18:15-20

When an equipment such as a computer breaks down, there are instructions one has to follow in an attempt to get it working. Depending on skillset and knowledge base, different individuals might be able to troubleshoot at different levels. This might include turning it off, waiting and then turning it on, resintalling software or replacing some hardware. This however does not guarantee a return of the equipment to normal function.
In the Gospel today, we read about Jesus providing multiple layers for troublebshooting a relationship with a brother. We notice the increasing skill set and knowledge requirements – moving from personal, a pair to involving the whole church. However, we notice that even after going through all these channels, the end result might still not be what is expected as the relationship might not get restored.
We read in Roman 8:28 that ‘All things work together for the good of them that love God, and are the called according to his purpose’. That ‘working together for good’ is not equivalent to a perfect score of success stories. Simply put, not all things will end on an expected high note, with the success or grande outcome we have in mind.
Yet, we have the opportunity to glean valuable lessons from all situations, whether success or otherwise, knowing that those situations will work together, with other things, for our good.
