DESIRES THAT PLEASE GOD

DAY 211

1 Kings 3:10 And the speech pleased the LORD, that Solomon had asked this thing.

It would make little sense for anyone to advance an argument that suggests Solomon made his request at Gibeon on a whim. Attempting to reasonably convince another that he thought only about what to say after God asked him to state his desires will be a hard task. His response seemed like that of a man who had thought about what He needed in his new role as a young ruler.

A question came to mind and I thought about it for a moment: “if you weren’t getting the things added to Solomon as bonuses, but we’re offered the very same blank cheque He received, what would you have asked for?” Let me ask this another way: ‘If God, the all sufficient and all Almighty, appeared to you right now
and asks ‘what do you want? What answer would you offer?

Have you even thought about a possible answer? Many of us have not thought about an answer of this maginitude to God. By extension, our lives are guarded by decisions that do not have any leaning towards ‘what we want’. “This is where it gets tricky because ‘there is a kind of want that pleases God’.

Solomon found it; ‘a desire that was perfectly aligned with the heart of God’. We may want a lot of things, but we ought to filter those wants through the lens of God’s will for us, and for His Kingdom. Only then does it please Him.

There are some wants that please God, those are the ones he furnishes.
