LEST YOU FORGET

DAY 198

Exodus 1:8 Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.

Even though the Israelites multiplied, no Pharoah had perceived them as a threat because they knew they were Joseph’s people. Egypt as a civilisation, had also neither lost its influence nor power, yet somehow, there had been a lack of continuity in the transfer of knowledge from one generation to the other.

Consequently, there arose a ruler who had everything his predecessors had:
power, influence and Authority. However, he lacked one thing ‘knowledge about Joseph’. “The absence of that alone, was what turned the nation of Israel from free men into slaves overnight.

You might think it a burden, but remembering is important. Israel were told multiple times ‘take care lest you forget the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery (Deut 6:12). Or as Joshua admonished ‘this book of the law must not depart from your lips but you shall meditate on it day and night.’

Whenever you forget anything, an idea, a revelation, a concept, a word, or a person, you attempt to find alternatives to bridge that gap. Unfortunately, such alternatives may not be in alignment with what the original was. Subsequently, peace could become turmoil, joy become sorrow, encouragement become defeat or like Israel, freedom become slavery.

Beloved, make every effort to REMEMBER, especially the word of God, lest you forget and miss out on all the good it says concerning you.
