STAYING TEACHABLE

DAY 196

Matthew 10:24 “The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master.

A specific kind of relationship exists between a master and servant or a student and teacher. It is one in which there should be a vertical and sometimes even a generational transfer of knowledge, unctions, wealth and mantles.

The word of God creates a gradient: ‘Yet it is beyond all dispute that the lesser person is always blessed by the greater one’ (Heb 7:7). Thus, such a relationship is characterised by teachability and honour. However, we live in a generation where everyone thinks they have arrived and so need to be tau no more. We treat those from whom we are to submit and learn, as though they are our equals.

A disciple follows because there is something they do not know. As students, if we remain pompous, proud and unteachable, we will lock ourselves out from receiving many things.
