THE WORD OF A KING

DAY 181

We read in Genesis 17:17

'Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, “Shall a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?”

If you put on the hat of imagination,  you can hear Abraham’s sarcastic laughter ringing in your ears and even could picture the scene of Him mumbling to himself about the ridiculousness of the information Gid had just been relayed to Him.

God does have a good sense of humour but He wasn’t laughing with Abraham. Instead, He repeated what He had said that made Abraham laugh. In fact, when it comes to His word, God does not play around for even He, himself, is bound by His own word.

Ecclesiastes 8:4 gives us further context ‘Since the king has the power to enforce his word, who dares ask him, “What are you doing?” As the Monarch of the Universe, God has all the power to cause all He says to become.

That is what gives us the confidence to trust every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. That is why we can also count on the fulfilment of every single promise in His word.
