DAY 178

Genesis 13:2,5 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold. And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.
Two lessons stand out today:
First, Abraham left empty with Lot from Ur of the Chaldeans. But as we read today, as Abraham increased, so did Lot. To the degree that there was a competition for space owing to their abundance. Thus, we infer that by virtue of his association with Abraham, Lot also increased in substance.
If people don’t gain, but only incur losses when they are with you, then you ought to be finding out why. This includes, but is not limited to the loss of material resources like wealth and goods, spiritual resources like virtue, faith, and passion for the things of God, as well as social resources in relationships.
Create a system around your life that causes others to gain because of you and not lose.
Secondly, whenever we hear of Sodom, the story that readily comes to mind is the fact that the city was destroyed as they lived in disobedience to God. This background is relevant because Sodom is not just a place, it could refer to a system or even to people.
Lot chose to pitch his tent in the Jordan valley, yet he was close enough to the influence of Sodom. In the end, He barely escaped with his life, much less the abundance he had gained.
The blessing of the Lord may be on you the individual, but don’t get it wrong to: where you pitch your tent matters. Pitch it too close to Sodom, and only destruction beckons.
