DAY 167
Matthew 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
It is interesting that in one breath, Jesus mentions rest and a yoke. For all intents and purposes, we would expect that the presence of rest would signify the absence of loads. That sounds the most appropriate.
A closer look through Scriptures will reveal that with Jesus, what we get are multiple exchanges: He took our place on the cross: “He became sin, that we might become the righteousness of God, He became poor, that we might become rich, He was stricken and bitten, that we might be healed. In the light of such exchange, He invites us to bring our heavy loads in favour of his yoke, which is light and easy to bear.
It is interesting that Jesus asks us to lay down our loads to take up his yoke. In other words, He says ‘stop struggling on your own and get into a team with me’. Picture this: a load is often carried by one animal, but a pair of animals is needed for a yoke. If you are therefore invited to take up Jesus’ yoke, then you can guess who is bearing the weight with you in the yoke.
In terms of ability, capacity and sufficiency, it makes perfect sense to lay down your load, to take up a yoke together with Jesus.
