DAY 161
Deuteronomy 8:2 Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.
Moses, speaking to Israel, does not hide anything but tells them that their journey in the wilderness for 40 years was God conducting a business of discerning their hearts. You would think that because it was God, the process would have been faster but No. It took 40 years! Yes, 40.
Now, for the Creator himself to take that long discerning the hearts of His creation tells you that the process of discernment should not be rushed – life choices, purpose determination, clarification of visions, among other – these have to be done patiently and with respect to time.
However, it also highlights another thing which the prophet Jeremiah put in these words- The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.” (Jeremiah 17:9-10)
In a teaching today, this was the message:
‘God loves all of us, but He does not trust all of us’.
That level of trust where He is willing to commit His purposes, His children, His power and His Grace to you, has to be earned. And for that, He will bide His time to search the depths of your heart.
