THE COST OF YOUR GIVING

DAY 151

Mark 12:43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:

When Jesus sat at opposite the treasury, with a close up view of how much was being put in there, it would have been fairly reasonable to assume more would be pleasing to Him. Instead, He expressed that the widows ‘two mites’ were weightier in the sight of God than the apparent abundance being put in by the rich. And we might wonder why?

In the Gospel of Mark, we read ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength (12:30). Therefore, in love, which is characterised by giving, God wants ‘ALL’ because the price for all of Him, is all of you’. So in economy of God, the quality of giving is not simply about how much you give, it is about how much it costs you.

Remember Abraham? His decision to give up Isaac when asked was going to cost him: his future, alongside every promise God had given him, he wagered his relationship with Sarah and even his very sanity. So when every doctrine about faith appears to end with Abraham, we have better understanding of what the cost would be.

However, beloved, God is not called taker, He is giver. Every giving of yours, therefore, even if directed to God, is not for Him, it is for you. And truly giving will always cost you something.
