HERALDS OF YOUR RISING

DAY 152

Mark 10:48-49 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.”

Normally, from the very first instance, Jesus addresses his audience directly, there is no third party involvement. From the woman with the issue of blood, Zacchaeus, or even Nicodemus, who came at night. But today, there are some middle men because he asker the crowd to call Bartimaeus over. And that makes for an interesting read.

When we peruse this text a bit further, we notice that when the Bartimaeus began calling on ‘Jesus, the son of David’, he was rebuked and told to remain silent’. Had he listened, that silence would have been the final sign off for a life of permanent blindness. ‘Speech is silver, and silence is golden’, but some silences are unwarranted and will only accelerate destruction.

Additionally, when the crowd call Bartimaeus, the very same voices that were rebuking him, became the ones calling him to Jesus. We will find that often in our lowest moments, there are people who see us. Some cheer, some jeer,  some laugh and while others encourage. These witnesses are placed along our path so that when our rising and shining happens, they are present to confirm the transition.

Don’t let the crowd scare you off, let them be the spectators that watch you rise into greatness. And as God lives, they will become the heralds of your rising.
