DAY 118

Acts 9:13,15 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem: But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:
God appears to Ananias with instruction to go and lay hands on Paul that he may regain his sight. His response this instruction can be summarised as “I have heard about this guy, he is clearly a danger to the church”. God’s subsequent response is even more straightforward, as though He did not hear the word “danger” – Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine.
Ananias was therefore indirectly rebuked for his complaint as God’s response asked this question: you have heard men say some things about him, now I am saying another thing to you – Who then would you listen to?
We struggle everyday with this because the voice of God is in competition with many other voices around us: from other men, ourselves, situations and circumstances. More often too, the alternatives to what God says seem to be much better options. Regardless of this however, we ought to obey God rather than men (Acts 5:29)
