DON’T LET PRIDE GET IN THE WAY

DAY 117

Acts 8:30 Philip ran up close and heard the man reading aloud from the book of Isaiah. Philip asked him, "Do you understand what you are reading?

Philip runs up to the Chariot and asks ‘Do you understand what you’re reading?’ Now mind you, this was not some young ordinary person he was addressing. He was addressing an Ethiopian eunuch, a man of great authority and a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians.Ā  (Acts 8:27)

Therefore, he was addressing a man of stature who had significant power and Influence in government. He was most likely an expert in managing resources, seeing as he was in charge of the national treasury. Thus, for such a person, it won’t be strange to have expected pride and ego to be present in high proportions. Even anger might be a valid response.

The eunuch could have responded ‘are you insulting my intelligence? Of course I understand what I’m reading’. Had he done so however, he would have locked himself out of the rich revelation he received from Philip with the help of the Holy Spirit, and also missed out on the gift of salvation.

Let’s not allow pride or our firm desires to hide our ignorance rob us of the opportunities to obtain helpĀ  when we need it.
