FOUNDATIONS NEED TO BE LAID

DAY 113

Luke 24:16 But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.

“Recognition” is defined as an identification based on previous encounters or knowledge. Therefore, for the two disciples who had seen Jesus while He taught across His three year ministry, it is strange that on the whole seven mile walk from Jerusalem to Emmaus, they failed to recognise Him.

There are bodies of knowledge and packets of revelation that you have no business recognising, unless certain foundations have already been laid. Jesus therefore took them on an entire journey through the Scriptures and broke bread with them. It was only at this time that their eyes were opened to recognise Him. The building blocks had been set.

You may journey through certain seasons of life not recognising many  patterns and people: opportunities, destiny helpers, or business and life partners, until you attain a certain stature. That could be God’s way of ensuring you are well placed to engage appropriately when you recognise.

But we see why: ‘something prevented them from recognising Him’. What a strange revelation. We might even wonder why their recognition would have been shrouded. Here, the hidden wisdom of God comes to light.
