DAY 110

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who refused to bow to the king’s golden image, were in the first category while the Apostles today, found themselves in the latter category: ‘they continued preaching Jesus after they had be strictly charged not to (Acts 5:28)’.
Obedience refers to compliance with an instruction or order, often received from an authority. We largely encounter two main kinds of disobedience therefore. The first kind is ‘not doing what you have been told to do’ and the second, ‘doing what you have been told not to do’. The only change in these two positions is the place of the word ‘NOT’.
However, there was one underlying driver for both instances of firm resistance as recorded in scripture, and that was the elevation of the Word, statutes, commands and dictates of God above those of men. The reply given by Peter and the apostles was this: “
We must obey God rather than men [we have no other choice]."(Acts 5:29)
On any matter therefore it is God’s weighting that tips the scales. Not that men have no authority to be regarded, but that there is a God in Heaven, whose Word trumps those of any man, regardless of their rank on this earth.
