WHAT WE HAVE HANDLED

DAY 103/365

Luke 24:39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

We read about a risen Jesus in the midst of disciples who were in a state of fright and utter panic trying to make sense of what had happened. It would become obvious that many would have drawn diverse conclusions: that Jesus was a scam, and had deceived them. And who would disagree with them seeing how he was hung helplessly on the cross.

Upon his ressurection therefore, Jesus had to take his time to show the disciples his wounds, confirm to them that he was actually still man and then opened their eyes to understand scripture. It was on the basis of this close encounter that John the Apostle would later write these words about Jesus:

“[I am writing about] what existed from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life [the One who existed even before the beginning of the world, Christ]'(1 John 1:1)

At the time of writing, John, like the other Apostles, had travelled beyond just hearing and seeing, they were operating at the realm of “what they had handled”. At this level, convictions are birthed from a place of personal tangibility, and established because of a deep seated revelation of Jesus, the word of life.

So a question for thought:  ‘

what have you heard, seen, and handled? And on what or who are your convictions founded?
