A HUMBLE GOD

DAY 96

John 13:12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them.

Humility and service were important to Jesus, hence, he had to ensure that his disciples understood those concepts while he was with them. As a result, two lessons emerge from the Maundy Thursday service:

1. We cannot get used to a humble God.

The concept of power and humility, fitting together in one statement or person, is often seen as a surprise. In fact, to witness the word made flesh, possessing all power and might, take on the role of a servant to wash the disciples feet was a lesson for the ages. A ‘humble God’ is who we  have because He desires to build a relationship with us.

2. A saint is not the one who just does extraordinary things, they are those people humble enough to allow themselves to be loved by Jesus.

Not letting yourself receive the love offered to you, even from God, is a form of pride. It is a way in which you communicate the notion that ‘I am self sufficient and self sustaining. I need no one and no one needs me.’ God just loved you, and waits for you to accept His love, that is humility.
