Numbers 21:4-5a Then the people of Israel traveled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea, to go around Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way; and they began to speak against God and Moses.
Whenever your speakings and doings are born out of impatience, they often proceed from a place of destruction, not creation. And so they come at a cost. A price Israel found out when their impatience caused them to grumble against God and Moses.
Impatience will always cost you:
It will cost you your peace, because you lose appreciation for what you have and you become envious of what everybody else possesses. You will begin to compare and compete, stressing and stretching to enter seasons for which you are not prepared.
It will cost you resources, because time, energy, material and financial resources will be required to undo some of the actions you take in impatience.
It will cost you men. In other words, you will lose relationships because in impatience, you will say words and do things that can shut your doors of access to certain men and the resources they command permanently. It will take favour to undo this.
And impatience can cost you your life, and that is in the very literal sense. Actions taken out of importunity, without thought and in a rush, carry a higher degree of risk where what is wagered might be more than just your words, but your very life itself.
Beloved, for such a simple word, impatience comes at a price too steep. So let us rather imitate those who through faith and patience, obtained the promises (“Hebrews 6:12)
