DAY 39

Workers are involved because things don’t just take care of themselves and keepers are appointed because not all things can guard themselves. Thus, anything intentionally made, required a custodian to watch keep watch. A two fold charge was committed to the man when he was placed in Eden:
Genesis 2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it [work it,cultivate it] and to keep it [guard it, hedge it].
A worker, therefore, finds the best opportunities for things to remain fruitful and flourish. They aim to establish the best set of conditions that facilitate thriving and so employ the use of their physical and intellectual faculties to achieve this.
“Every man is thus equipped with potential to excel at what they do”.
The charge which follows “work it”, was “keep it”. From the very onset, that denotes the existence of a threat because there is no reason to give a charge to protect if no imminent threats. This holds true because everything has something that fights it- whether seen or unseen.
Whatever is left without clear plan to keep, has been put on a countdown clock towards decay.
Even for us, scripture does not mince words in admonishing “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Pt 5:8) Whenever we encounter the word “Keep” in the word of God, it is our prompt that there is a battle going on for what is to be kept.
So in statements like ‘keep your minds on’ (Col 3:2) or ‘keep your lips from’ (1 Pt 3:10), we are given the prompts to realise that there is a war against our thinking and our speakings. We therefore have to hedge or guard those areas of our life.
Beloved, while you live on earth, bear in mind that you have been given charge as ‘a worker and a keeper’. Don’t treat those roles lightly.
