DAY 4

John 1:38 When Jesus turned and saw them, he asked, “What do you want? ”They answered, “Rabbi, where do you live?” The Hebrew word “Rabbi” means “Teacher.”
Jesus is rather blunt when he encounters the disciples in today’s Gospel for the first time. In no two ways, He asks them ‘what do you want?’ He clearly solicits for the reasoning behind their followership because you know what, “It takes significant travel time into the things of God to arrive in a place where you can dare to want nothing from God”.
What do we want from God? In fact, the disciples of Jesus asked this in a more political way ‘what do we get from following you?’
Many individuals are therefore saddled to the things of God not because they are His, but because of what they stand to gain out of them in the end. God guarantees Provision and the angelic cohort he commands makes Protection a piece of cake. His Omnipotence makes all Power His to give out, along with all the other dimensions that come with it – fame, success, glory and influence.
So we ponder further: Are we fans of God? His Partners? Servants or are we simply Users of God? Interestingly, none of the aforementioned groups of people receive anything worthwhile because the inheritance is set aside for those who attain the status as heirs. You cannot just belong to the ‘Jesus fan club’ but expect to have what belongs to heirs.
