Luke 7:24-26

An interesting question about pursuit comes into the frame of conversation in the address Jesus gives today’s Gospel. We read it as follows:
When John’s messengers left, Jesus began speaking to the crowds about John: “What did you go out to the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? But what did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing [entirely unsuited for the harsh wilderness]? Those who wear splendid clothing and live in luxury are in royal palaces! (Luke 7:24-26)
The audience of Jesus were being asked to define the drivers of their pursuits. What images they had in mind as they run forward because what you’re looking for, determines where you look and where you run towards. If they wanted luxury and splendour therefore, their place of searching was meant to be in the Royal Palace, not the wilderness.
Many in life are pursuing many things, only that they are looking for them in the wrong places. When you look for anything, regardless of where you look, chances are you are likely to find an item that is similar and is able to complete the task intended. The only downside is ‘that was never what you required in the first place’
Beloved, knowing where to rightly look for something or someone, is as equally important as knowing what or who you are looking for. Without this balance, you could be delayed by many seasons or end up acquiring things that had no reason to be in your space.
