SAYING AND DOING

335/365

Matthew 7:21 Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father Who is in heaven.

Jesus in His teaching today mentions two groups of people: one group who say and the other, who do. While He is clear to relay that the sayers aren’t doing enough, the doers need not let this get to their heads.

In fact, God presents the perfect combination of what this situation should look like:
“God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?”(Numbers 23:19)

God is therefore introduced not just as a sayer or a doer, for none of those are isolated in his person. Instead, we get a combination – He says and He does. Likewise, we cannot sit solely in one dimension because not every part of our journey with God will be action driven, there are moments that require the speakings of His Word.

It is our ability to identify those moments which call for our ‘doing’, that will complete our ‘saying’.
