1 John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
The world does not know us because it does not know God. When we meditate on this text,it can become very easy to fix our eyes on the world coming to know God so they will know about us though association. However, while reflecting on the text, a more introspective reference came to mind: the world does not know us and God, but do we know ourselves? and do we even know God enough?
Every manifestation in the kingdom is born out of an understanding of identity and purpose. This identity is built on the knowledge of the ways and works of God because it is from our knowledge of God that we glean insight about our very own selves.
It is through God’s lens that we can see how in the splendour of his image and likeness, He fearfully and wonderfully made us. How He has endowed us with every spiritual blessing in the Heavenly places and made us Kings and Priests. We discern how He has charged us to occupy till He comes and to fulfil his purposes on this earth with our presence.
The words of Bishop Fulteen Sheen comes to mind
“is life worth living or is it dull and monotonous? Life is monotonous if it is meaningless; it is not monotonous if it has purpose”.
Bishop Fulton Sheen
Let’s strive to know God first, then know ourselves through His eyes. Only then, will we discover and walk in the real purpose for our lives.
