IT TAKES MORE THAN DESIRE

Luke 13:24 Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

In context, the word translated ‘strive’ literally means ‘to struggle’ while that for ‘seek’ means ‘to desire or require’. So those who succeed in entering the narrow door, will be those who struggle and not just desire.

There are many things we can wish for, but wishing for them does not simply bring them to pass, they have to be worked for. The door is narrow because not everything can fit in it – not all things make the cut. So one who wants to pass will have to consciously leave things behind. You simply cannot wish to pass, you have to lighten your load to pass.

Saint Paul sheds a bit more light when he said “But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified” (1 Cor 9:27). Despite his many exploits, he simply could not wish himself to where he wanted to be. He had to put in the work and discipline to make it through.

We cannot wish ourselves into maturity and growth, we rather have to sustain the discipline to strive to enter.
