You can pretend to fight for a specific flag and follow set standards. You could profess your allegiance to a course of action. Yet, one thing can be expected, your pretense has an expiry date. You can almost be certain that ‘the curtains will come down’ on it because while you might intentionally sell yourself as something you’re not, your fruits will give you up.
While your leaves are green and no one can seem to tell what plant you are, you can sell anything and others will buy: an olive, palm, orange or fig. Yet, there comes a fruit bearing season which culminates in the definite identification: by their fruits you shall know them.
Now the works of the flesh ARE obvious: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these.
By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit IS love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things. (Gal 5:19-23)
We are therefore reminded that there exists two sets of fruits that can become evident in our lives: one set attributed to a leading by the flesh and the other due to keeping in step with the Spirit. Think of it this way:
regardless of how good of an actor you are, you are a blank canvas, and whatever you allow to lead you will paint a corresponding visible picture on you- the fruits you show off.
