YOU ARE A BILLBOARD

Luke 11:30 As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.”

Fans of football would have heard of words such as ‘gengenpress, tiki taka or sarri ball. The list are all tactics employed by specific managers, you could call it their trade style. Whenever you look at a football team therefore, what you look for identity. Beyond the individual players, you seek to pin down a style which the whole team adheres to and that has to be evident.

The same is true for people- whoever we encounter a person, rarely do we look solely on their outlook in isolation. We tend to dig deeper unconsciously or not to identify institutions behind them. So we think what kind of family they might come from, how they were nurtured, which persons are in their circle. Because whether we like it or not, honour is associated, and so is dishonour.

Jesus’ mother was the one who received high praise for the exploits He was doing, although he was quick to divert the focus. It is for this reason Paul would write to the church ‘Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31)

While on earth, believing and serving God, we are billboards and banners showing others how a life with God looks like. We ought then to point others to Him at every moment.
