A popular anthem today among the youth is ‘it’s my life’. These words are often used in situations when their behaviour or choices are questioned, often by those whose experiences in life far exceed theirs. Their response basically suggests ‘I can do whatever I want and seek all that comforts and pleasure life had to offer me.’
In this position, they get a massive support from today’s text. In fact, they are encouraged to press on forward with what pleases them as we read: ‘Young man, it’s wonderful to be young! Enjoy every minute of it! Do all you want to; take in everything Follow the impulses of your heart and if something looks good to you, pursue it.(Eccl 11:9a)
Now that, is encouragement at its finest. But a caveat follows this encouragement: ‘Enjoy, but remember that not just anything goes; You have to answer to God for every last bit of it.’(vs 9b)

We often forget that there is an ‘accountability clause’ attached to every choice, decision and action we take. This is the remainder – not that your hands are tied only to specific dealings, but to place a small check at the back of your mind that ‘you are accountable for your choices”
