THE GOD WHO GIVES INCREASE

242/365

1 Corinthians 3:7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

I sent an email this morning and received a response which redirected me to another source likely to have the information I might need. This redirection is exactly what Paul does  today in his letter to the Corinthians: he shifts their attention from himself and Apollos, unto God.

The farmer who plants and the one who does the watering are those in the limelight. They are those who are seen hence, it becomes rather easy to attribute any harvest to them. The dynamics of seed generation, growth and fruit yielding, which are critical, are not even taken into account.

We can very easily lose sight of the ‘God behind the men’ to fix our gaze solely on the men. We may therefore end up ignoring the one who gives the increase to dwell on the planter and waterer. So our question for pondering on is this ‘Am I looking at the men and women of God or at the God behind them?
