A LITTLE BIT EXTRA

Reference text: Matthew 25:1-13

Today’s text for reflection is the parable of the ten virgins. The key points of interest for our discourse are as follows:

Ten virgins received the same opportunity: an invitation to be part of a wedding celebration (25vs 1)
They had the same preparatory time and also a faced the same situation while engaging with this opportunity: they all became drowsy and slept (25vs 5)

We have grown up in a society where sometimes the bare minimum is immensely celebrated. We are told ‘Do exactly what needs to be done, nothing more. Yet, what we realise is that ‘extra’ has a place.

Yet in the end, only half of them realised the end goal of the opportunity presented to them. Why? Because that half took extra oil with their lamps (25:4)

‘Extra’ simply means to a greater extent than usual. Driving one kilometer faster than another car might seem insignificant across a short space of time, but over an hour, that becomes a gap of a kilometer between the two vehicles. In plain terms, where everybody else reads five words, you read six. Don’t be afraid to do or give extra: extra time, extra effort, extra knowledge, or extra resolve.

Be rather willing to take on and do just a little extra, even a little bit more as you are able. The outcome will be steep elevation, growth and opportunities to make impact that only those who have had the capacity for extra can attain.
