Discipline requires adopting particular sets of actions and ways of doing things with the aim of getting the results we seek. In other words, one may not necessarily be in their comfort zone or relish the activities they may be involved with, but for the sake of the intended outcomes, those actions demand utmost commitment and require completion.
That is discipline: ‘doing what needs to be done, when it should be done; whether we feel like it or not’. It is this elimination of feeling that makes discipline sometimes painful. The discipline of saving now when there is a piece of gadget or clothing you’ve been waiting to purchase, the discipline of holding your tongue when you have so much to say or the discipline of showing up to train on a cold winter morning when sleep looks so appealing.
For every exchange therefore, there is a receipt because where discipline has been cultured, there are fruits to show for it. Scripture says: “To those who have been trained by it, afterwards discipline yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness [right standing with God and a lifestyle and attitude that seeks conformity to God’s will and purpose]” (Heb 12:11)
That is the receipt you obtain to show your commitment to discipline.
