KEEP YOUR DIFFERENCE

I remember reading about experiments conducted by a psychologist names Solomon Asch about social conformity. From his findings, he concluded that even when it meant going against their conviction, people were often willing to literally ignore their reality or known truth to give an incorrect answer that conforms to the views of any group to which they belong.

Non-conformist are said to be ‘different’ – so we could also say being different simply means not fitting in or towing the line of the masses. You could say it is staying as a square peg not fitting into a round hole when others have reshaped themselves to fit into them.

Many therefore do not like those who are different because they think they are just not ‘crowd people’ and in many situations, being different is likely to make you more enemies than friends. We can draw examples from the lives of Jeremiah, Stephen and even Jesus.

Beloved, it is easier to go where everyone else is, do what everybody else is and adopt view points that align with the masses. In other words, it takes more work to stand out than it takes to fit in. How others react to your not fitting is however outside your control, ‘it is a them thing’, no fault of yours.

You do not have to change to fit in as long as your difference is founded within the boundaries of the word of God. Just keep your focus.
