HOW SAFE
Luke 12:40 You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him
The average home has multiple security systems: high walls, multilayered and alloyed burglar proofing for windows and doors, burglar alarms, CCTV cameras, among others. These would be classed as low-tech. Throw in laser systems and facial recognition and you enter another domain.
Yet, what I heard at Mass today got me thinking “we are more prepared for thieves than we are for God”
I so wanted to say this in a nicer way, but couldnt find any. Beloved, at a particular time, when you have exhausted the days of your walk, whether you lived doing what you wanted or what you had been assigned to do; our lives on this earth will end. And as scripture says ‘ it is appointed for men to die once, and after that comes judgment (Heb 9:27)
The Son on man will come like a thief in the night – but the man who has trusted security measures needs not fear the arrival of a burglar while he sleeps for he is ready whenever. We each have to live with eternity imprinted on our eyeballs because it is actually hard to argue against the assertion that ‘we are more prepared literally for thieves than we are for God.’
