HAVE YOU DISCERNED TRUE VALUE?
1 Kings 21:2 And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house: and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; or, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money.
What Ahab was in essence saying to Naboth in part was ‘give me your inheritance that I may give you something else’. Something he the king thought was better than that inheritance.
The attraction of alternatives can cloud our imagination of that which we already possess particularly if we have not discerned their true value. We can thus be lured into making trade offs of what ‘could be’ for the verified inheritances we possess.
Naboth knew clearly the worth of what he possessed in the vineyard and for that, even the word of the king would not persuade him to give it up. He had discerned that whatever King Ahab offered would not have equivalency in terms of the value of what he possessed.
So I ask, ‘what is your inheritance? What do you possess? And have you discerned its true value?
