Deuteronomy 30:16a In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments,
In the military, an order is meant to be followed regardless of an individual’s conviction as a refusal to follow one can be seen as a gross disrespect for authority. Assuming Moses was a high ranking military officer, after his words, all of Israel would be expected to obey but that was not the case because there was an element of choice.
When it comes to making decisions that can affect the life of an individual, it takes more than just ‘ a command to get them to comply’. One can be hit with threats, rewards or whatever is necessary to make the command seem like the best resort, however, an amount of individual will and desire is required.
That is the one thing God has given to us- the freedom to choose. As much as He has the desire that all men will choose Him, if He had his own way, I bet he might even consider making it impossible to refuse him yet he offers the choice. Even in Eden, after sternly warning man not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, He still left it within his reach so he could choose; besides what good is freewill if there is no choice to be made?
My dear, Moses presented to Israel Life and good, death and evil to make their choice. In our time, Life and good are embodied in one man- Jesus. Choosing Jesus means you have chosen both of these. However you can no longer be commanded to choose and neither can you be forced into making that choice, it has to be of your own freewill. But
Remember # on any day, choose Jesus and you will be okay.
