GET SOME ACTUAL REST

Mark 6:31 And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

Jesus requested that his disciples take some time off to cool down after presenting their reports on all they had done. This was in his bid to keep them refreshed because owing to the amount of work available, they had had no time to even munch on anything. You could call this request of his ‘an enforced break’.

For the people of this day and age, the word ‘rest’ often sounds like a distant dream far beyond their reach. So much that in all our labour and endeavours, we seem to forget that the physical bodies we possess can only go to a set limit. Regardless of our earnest desires and heartfelt intentions, when we get to the body’s elastic limit, it breaks down.

Most people have dedicated a chunk of their time and efforts to service of others, their careers and other dreams all to the neglect of their own physical health sometimes using divine health as an excuse. As much as there is the promise of divine health and renewal of strength, we must also bear in mind that some aspect of our wellbeing falls squarely on our shoulders.

If you push yourself too hard, regardless of where you stand, you could breakdown because life is already serious enough to be taken up an extra notch. My dear, take some time off and get some real rest: go out with family, laugh with some friends and at least on one occasion, try to have an actual break. It may appear you will miss out on a few things but the renewal gained will be as relevant. Don’t overwork yourself to the point of being unable to be of service to others; cool down first.

Remember # You can’t expect God to do by miracle what you should do by responsibility- Get some rest.
